What We Do

We began stories of America as a project to capture and preserve the stories of those who have served our nation in our armed forces.  After the interview, each of the family members are given a DVD of the interview to have these stories preserved for future generations to watch.  We also edit these interviews into short segments to share on this website and our YouTube channel for friends and family around the world to be able to watch and share in the story.

We also provide a place for you to share your story or the story of a family member.  You can e-mail your story to mystory@storiesofamerica.org and send us a couple of photos to go with it.  We will review these stories and post them on the MyStory page of our site.

Why We Do What We Do

I remember when I was around 13, sitting in my uncle’s living room as he began to talk about his time in the US Army in World War 2.  He told about his time in London on the security detail for General Eisenhower as they were planning D-Day and of his landing at Normandy.  He told many other stories that I wish we were able to watch and listen to today.  After we left his house that day, my mom had been in the kitchen with his wife.  My mom said that his wife was standing in the doorway listening and crying.  She said he had never talked much about the war and she had never heard those stories before.  Since that time, I have been honored to have the opportunity to listen to many more stories from these amazing people.  People that do not think that what they did was amazing.  They were just serving their country.

There are many stories from wars past that need to be preserved for our nation’s history and for those families.  The stories from World War 2 are quickly fading away, but there are many new stories being created every day.  From our veterans of more recent wars, our current military, and our every day heroes that serve their community in other ways to make their world a better place.  We love history and the stories that come from our past, but we also know that the heroes working today are the ones creating our future.

What Can You Do

We want to hear your stories.  If you have a story to tell or would like for us to interview you or a family member, please send your story to mystory@storiesofamerica.org.  We want to hear from you.  This project is a privately funded project.  We do not charge these families for our services and the DVDs are a free gift to the families from us.  We are currently working to raise some capital to improve the quality of these video interviews and decrease the time to edit the interviews and get them back to the families.  Because we are privately funded, we are also limited in our travel to capture these stories.  Fortunately, we live in an area where there are many stories around us, but we would love to be able to get out of our part of the world and go capture some more unique stories.  If you would like to contribute to this project either financially or with your talents, please contact us or donate through our Kickstarter campaign coming soon.  We appreciate your support.
